Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure "Mermaid's Tale"
When I first caught wind of Sally Hansen's new blue and green hexagonal glitter Mermaid's Tale, I knew it would be one of those polishes I'd be out searching for on my lunch break daily. Week after week I'd stalk the shelves of Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens, and Duane Reade until at last I found a sole bottle at CVS mixed in randomly with some other polishes! I've since learned that Mermaid's Tale is permanent so you should be able to track it down without too much trouble :)
Mermaid's Tale was well worth the effort it took to find it. One of the newest additions to the Complete Salon Manicure line, this "glitter sandwich-style" polish consists of large blue and green hexagonal pieces and smaller blue glitter suspended in a deep blackened blue jelly base. Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure wide paddle brush is PERFECT for applying these glitter pieces evenly across the nail. This brush is everything the Sephora X Chaotic brush should have been. The glitter was easy to pull from the bottle - I love how it glows under the jelly base. The formula is syrupy and not runny.
Because the base color is sheer, you do need to apply at least (3) coats for opaque coverage. In this picture I am wearing (3) coats of Mermaid's Tale alone:
I think I love Mermaid's Tale even more over black. Shown below, I'm wearing (2) coats over Wet & Wild Black Creme.
Removal is as bad as glitter removal gets. The flat hexagonal glitters really grab onto the nail. But to me, this is a polish so lovely that the terrible removal is worth tolerating :)
From what I've seen, Mermaid's Tale is very similar to "the original" blue and green hex glitter Deborah Lippman's Across the Universe but it's not a dupe of Two Birds Shines By Night. I found Mermaid's Tale at my local CVS for $8.99.
