It could be the mild winter we've been having, but now that we've made it to March spring is positively noticeably in the air. The days are getting longer - I've finally started to see daylight after work!
With warmer weather on the horizon, we pack away the extra blankets and move those heavy sweaters to the bottom of our drawers. In our nail polish drawers, the darker, dusty colors work their way to the back as we rediscover our pastels and bright polishes.
For each trend I'll share a polish in my collection and a link for you to see some other options!
#5 Shimmery Periwinkle
This icy cool purpley-blue hue made it into almost every spring collection this year. Maybe it's because periwinkle is soothing to look at but I think it was the brilliant touch of shimmer that convinced us we need every version out there!
Savina Frostbite
Color Club Hydrangea Kiss (Chloe's Nails)
Finger Paints Grape Gumball (Polish You Pretty)
OPI I Have a Herring Problem (NailZilla)
Zoya Skylar (Polish and Patience)
#4 Bubble Gum Pink
This year, several cool pink creme shades busted into the nail polish scene proclaiming "And you thought you've seen it all!" Best described as bubble gum pink, this polish is a fun and girly accessory that is sure to spring-ify any outfit you wear.
China Glaze Dance Baby
Color Club Blushing Rose (Lacquered Lover)
MAC Pinkly Fresh (Temptalia)
OPI Pink Friday (My Nail Polish Online)
#3 Extreme Flakies
Flaky nail polish is a nail polish lover's delight. Crazy extreme flaky nail polish is a dream come true! This spring, flakies of all colors, shapes, and sizes are flying off shelves and on to nails faster than high-end polishes are being duped (oh snap...)!
Finger Paints Twisted
American Apparel Meteor Shower (Goose's Glitter)
China Glaze Luxe and Lush (Rachel Marie's Nails)
Color Club Diamond Drops (Enamel Girl)
Cult Nails Unicorn Puke/Clairvoyant (Dizzy Nails)
Finger Paints Special Effects Polishes (Let Them Have Polish)
#2 Avocado-y Spring Green
Let's face it - there's a new green in town this year and it isn't quite last year's mint green! This fresh green is the color of new flowers poking through the ground and wearing it on your nails says you are SO ready for spring.
Essie Navigate Her
China Glaze Gaga for Green (Gotham Polish)
Dior Waterlily (Ommorphia Beauty Bar)
Nubar Kiwi (The Hungry Asian)
Sinful Colors Olympia (Frazzle and Aniploish)
Yves Saint Laurent Duo Manicure Couture Nail Polish Set in Edition 7 (Fashion Polish)
#1 Indie Polish
The best nail polish shades this spring aren't actually found in the stores. They're found online! Whether it's a polish you stumbled across on Etsy or something special you ordered from overseas, wearing a lacquer that isn't massed produced is the hottest trend this spring in nail polish.

And now in order by date, here are my top 5 spring event picks in New York City:
Cherry Blossom Season at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden
April 1 - 29, Brooklyn Botanical Garden
http://www.bbg.org/discover/cherries/
Once a year, cherry trees bloom delicate pink pom poms. At the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, there is a Cherry Esplanade and Cherry Walk where you can be surrounded by beautiful pink blossoms in April. It looks simply dreamy!
Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival
April 8th 10AM - 4PM, 5th Ave from 49th St to 57th St
http://gonyc.about.com/cs/holidays/a/easter.htm
The NYC Easter Parade is quite unique. It's highly disorganized but highly enjoyable - people dress in their Easter best or dress up
like a bunny on a Segway.
NY Baseball Opening Day
Mets vs Braves: April 5th, 1:10PM
Yankees vs Angels: April 13th, 1:05PM
Spring is baseball season and New York City is a baseball town! Catch a game at
Shea Citi Field or Yankee Stadium and don't forget to wear sunblock :)
Tribeca Film Festival
April 18 - 29
http://www.tribecafilm.com/festival/
Check out a new film! "The Festival’s mission is to help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience, enable the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promote New York City as a major filmmaking center. Fleet Week
surrounding Memorial Day Weekend
http://gonyc.about.com/od/holidays/p/fleetweek.htm
"Since 1984, New York City has held Fleet Week to honor the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The week features extensive military demonstrations, as well as the opportunity for the public to tour some of the visiting ships. The Memorial Day commemoration is a highlight of the week's festivities, featuring the singing of Taps and a military aircraft fly over in honor of those who lost their lives in service to the United States." -
