I read that Disney took over the windows of Barneys this year in the Electric Holiday display, but after visiting the windows, it seems more that Barneys took over Disney! In a short video, Mickey, Minnie, and friends have been re-imagined as non-smiling, thin models that walk the runway at fashion week for famous spectators including Disney-fied Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga. While depicting these classic Disney characters as models has been a bit of a hot topic, the video tells the story of Minnie dreaming about starring in fashion week while window shopping. After all... following your dreams is a very Disney idea, isn't it?
I chose the Electric Holiday logo as the inspiration for my manicure and just like Minnie, dreamed up an ambitious (for me) goal: I wanted to have neon glowing "electric" tips. Since holiday window manicures come but once a year, I went for it!
black: Wet & Wild Black Creme | white: Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hard As Wraps White On | neon pink: Mattese Elite Fury | neon orange: American Apparel Neon Coral | neon yellow: American Apparel Neon Yellow | neon purple: Sinful Colors Dream On | white glitter: Cirque Galinda
Even though there are many steps, just about all of them are fool-proof. Free-handing the neon tips requires a steady hand, but start with a thin tip (you can always make it thicker) and be conservative with how much polish is on your brush to avoid big globs.
Shop the Electric Holiday collection here. I love this shopping bag ornament!

DeleteI don't love the windows, but I do love the manicure! Great idea, I wouldn't have come up with the idea of using glitter - but it needs to be used! :)
ReplyDeleteThe glitter I added at the end - I felt it just needed something else, and Galinda was it! It helps that there are white pieces in it, too :)
