I stopped by Ricky's on Monday for no reason except I had some time to kill on my lunch break. Much to my surprise, there was a FULL display of the Color Club "Halo Hues" holo collection sitting out on the counter! After snapping some display pictures for Twitter and Facebook (yes, I'm on Facebook finally), I thought about what color holo polishes I was lacking and decided on Blue Heaven.
Blue Heaven is a powder blue hue with a strong linear holo. I love how soft this blue shade looks. The holo is quite intense and it shows up nicely inside. I am wearing (2) coats of Blue Heaven in all pictures in this post over butter LONDON 'Nail Foundation' Flawless Basecoat (received for review - disclosure policy here) and topped with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat.
This is Blue Heaven seen in my light box. My light sources are a mix: I use a direct incandescent light, a diffused incandescent light, and a diffused halogen (because that's what I had around my apartment when my boyfriend built it).
In direct mid-day sunlight, Blue Heaven comes alive and strongly flashes a rainbow. These photos were taken around noon with an iPhone 5.
This photo was taken with flash (camera setting: 'automatic'):
What makes Blue Heaven a real winner is the formula. Until now, the most linear holo I owned was Layla Hologram Mercury Twilight. For those who haven't used a Layla holo, the application and formula is notoriously known as something to tolerate. The dense holo pigment has a tendency to clump on the brush, they apply patchy, show all the ridges in your nails, and don't play well with base coats. While this sounds rough, the Layla holos are so pretty in the end I can overlook these application issues :) That in mind, I was thrilled to discover that Blue Heaven applied perfectly- just like a "regular" polish - and is actually almost a one-coater, making it the most opaque holo I own. Blue Heaven is so amazing I'm considering going back to Ricky's and getting more...
The Halo Hues collection is available at Ricky's stores now (Tweet @Rickys_NYC if you want to confirm they are available in your local store) and will also be available on their website soon. Don't live near a Ricky's? You can buy them online now from Color Club and 8ty8 Beauty.
By the way... way to go Ricky's for stocking this collection. I heard that it was because of passionate NYC nail polish lovers that they decided to order this collection!

I can't wait for mine to get here Friday!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! I think I know what you'll be doing this weekend :)
DeleteThat looks awesome. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteI've got this one but sadly there is no sunshine in Scotland, so I've not had it on yet, since they look good in the sun!
I hope you have a bright sunny weekend ahead :)
Deletewow, amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much better than I expected :)
DeleteOmg, this is the strongest holo effect I've ever seen!! I need to get a few of these <3<3<3
ReplyDeleteI totally recommend this one for sure, you will love the formula!
Deletesuper stunning! love holo-polishes. especially in the summer time!
ReplyDeleteSomething about this shade of blue though looks icy and is perfect for the chilly weather :)
DeleteI have the entire set, I'm in the UK and imported from the US. Was pricey but I don't care as they are stunning. Seche vite top coat didn't dull the effect at all and after 3 days of wear so far my manicure looks 'just done' not a single chip and the application was a dream. Love these sooo much. I just wish CC was available in the UK.
ReplyDeleteOh that's great you were able to get these, even though they aren't usually available by you! I agree, Seche doesn't dull the holo.
DeleteHow have these been sitting in my untried draw? This is an amazing holo. I need to try them ASAP! I found them at a Beauty Plus salon for about $4 (I believe) each. But Ricky's is a good alternative for anyone that does not have a Beauty Plus near them.
ReplyDeleteOh wow what a find! I wonder if the Beauty Plus salon on the UWS has them...
Deleteanyone who wants to order online should keep checking transdesign.com, they have them for 6.95 each, the only problem is they keep selling out but if you can catch them when they restock that was the best price i found online. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
DeleteI literally squealed at your video. A-mazing. I need the whole collection in my life. Owning all of the first edition of the Layla holographics, I'm excited to hear that the Color Club ones apply easier. Awesome post!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!! Really glad you liked the video, this is a color that deserves a video :) Yes I think you'll be quite pleased with the application, especially compared to the Laylas (which are amazing holos of course).
Deletehmm:D I see changes here:D I love the nail polish :X
ReplyDeleteOh good glad you noticed! I hope you like the look, I think it's more "polished" looking ;)
DeleteI got two from this collection, and got so excited I had to put it on one of my nails right away, despite being at work. Holy CRAP it is the shiniest thing I have EVER seen. Like someone melted down a CD and poured it over my nail.
ReplyDeleteBest. Comment. Ever.
