Butter LONDON "Black Knight" Makes the Dark Side Look Good

The dark side of polish, that is! Butter LONDON's incredible "glitter fusion" Black Knight is a multicolored glitter polish magically suspended in a black jelly base. Black Knight could have been inspired by the city lights reflecting in the river, don't you think?

The first time I wore Black Knight, I needed (3) coats of it to be opaque. Yikes. However, I understand that the black needs to have a jelly consistency so that the beautiful magenta and turquoise glitter can shine through and doesn't get buried. The easy solution is to wear black underwear (tee hee hee). My choice is Wet & Wild Black Crème because not only is it a very deep black, it is a one coat wonder. With a black base, I only needed (1) coat of Black Knight.

Black and really dark nail polish looks trendy and chic, but only when it's applied flawlessly. I'm overly careful and terrified of cuticle pooling which is how I ended up with the giant gaps :/ Oh well, practice makes perfect!

Black Knight is a gritty polish and swallowed (2) coats of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat. Nom nom nom.

Butter LONDON polishes are $14. In New York City, my favorite retailers of Butter polishes are C.O. Bigelow, Ricky's, and Windsor Pharmacy. There are many more! Here is a list of retailers in New York City that carry Butter nail polish. If you want to buy Black Knight online, I recommend Nordstrom because they offer free shipping :)

  2. it looks great! I'm jealous of your cuticles :l lol and about the gaps, you can paint closer and use an old eyeliner brush dipped in acetone to clean up! that way, you can get closer and if it looks shaky or it pools, you can fix it :] that's what I do, hope that helps! also, gelous is good for gritty glitters :] hope that helps too! :]

    1. Thanks, I'm trying to take good care of my cuticles! That's a great tip about using a brush, especially to help with pooling. Gah I can't stand pooling. I haven't tried Gelous, but you're right it probably would do the trick!

  3. Black Knight layered with Tart With A Heart ruined me! Now whenever I see a black with some sort of glitter, I'm never impressed because that combo set the bar so high for me haha

    1. LOL! That's too funny :) I have a sweet layering combo to share later this week, it's not Tart with a Heart but it is really awesome!

  4. I hear you on the giant gaps. I would rather have a gap than have to do clean up, especially with a dark color. Black Knight is GORGEOUS! I don't have any Butter London polishes yet. I need to fix that. Your new header if fantastic, BTW.

    1. Happy to hear you like the new header! I adore Butter polishes, they are on the expensive side but the bottles are super cute and they make lots of unique shades.

    1. Hehe I'm glad I found a picture to describe it... I don't have a lot of night time city pictures in my stash, I should really do something about that :)

  8. It looks pretty, I even have it on my WL, but I think I won't be getting Black Knight in the end after your review, 3 coats and swallowing top coat is a no-no (considering its price)...Shame it's difficult to get Wet'n'Wild polishes over here!

    1. It's a great alternative to solid black - I like solid black, but would rather it have something more to it :)

  12. Here's the thing; I absolutely adore Butter London lacquers, and since I first saw this shade, I was in love with it's gothic gorgeousness, but I've seen & read how gritty and/or bumpy it is and that turned me off somewhat. Still, I love how it looks - especially on you!

    1. It would be remiss of me to not mention the gritty factor, even if it is a bit of a turn off :) I might have to check out Gelous that All the Pretty Polish recommended above!
